Forest Explorers - Jay County

Thursday August 23rd, 9-11:30 am

Kelly Baggs Trail Head, Hudson Family Park, Portland.

60's and sunny, likely wet underfoot.
A free weekly gathering for children and their families/caregivers. All ages welcome!

Let's meet and discover the Kelly Baggs Nature Trails together. There is lot to explore with child friendly walks through the trails.

We will meet around 9am at the trail head. Park in the parking lot by the play structure and walk down to the left of the playground and you will find the trail head located at the bottom of the slope to the right. We will collect there in the grassy area by the sign, giving the kids time to explore and then set off walking after about 10 minutes. We will take a leisurely walk around the trails, taking time to let the children lead us into mini adventures. Please bring a snack to enjoy along the way. It is unlikely we will use the whole 2.5 hours at the beginning, but it sets up a precedent for the future.

Afterward, the Hudson Family Park is on the 'way out' of the trail with bathrooms, a pavilion and play equipment for those who want to bring lunch or continue to play.

Last week two families enjoyed the puddles at the entrance to the Kelly Baggs Trails. One wet toddler back to the car for a change and nap, my daughter and I ventured down the white trail, revisiting the strange spikes of the honey locust trees and reveling in the saturated colors of the leaves and shrubs after heavy rains the night before.
